Building Committee update:

The building committee has been meeting regularly over the last few months.  We have consulted with two architectural firms, and solicited design build proposals from four construction companies.  We hope to have selected a contractor to work with in the next 30 days.

Actual work on the building addition will not begin until the spring of 2008.  Over the winter we will be working with Clackamas County to obtain the building permit.

Presentation and Party

On September 16, an interested group gathered to listen and watch as Ginger Redlinger shared some of her adventures aboard a research vessel off the coast of Alaska.

Afterward,  Roberta Daniels was feted in celebration of her birthday.  All six of her offspring were present for the grand event.

Elaine and Barbara Daniels serve the birthday cake.

Blessings

The fall is often a time for celebrating our blessings.  During the worship service on Sunday, September 16th we celebrated the blessing of having 6 of our young people go off to college.  Laura Yoder and Ryan Yoder are attending Oregon State.  Morgan Rogers is in graduate school at Oregon State.  Amber Rogers and Carly Sether are attending Western Oregon, and Ethan Boss is attending the University of Oregon.  Laura Yoder will be spending the semester abroad in Tunisia!   Our prayers and best wishes are with all of our students.

We also celebrate blessings in weddings.  David Hayes and Jane Louise Howarth were married in our church on Saturday, September 29th.  We rejoice in their love for one another.

On September 30th we celebrated our pets in a Blessing of the Animals service in the grove.  Our pets are often some of our best friends, and they are truly a gift from God.

Part of my ministry is trying to connect our faith with the every day events in our lives.  Other events that can be blessed are anniversaries, renewal of wedding vows, new homes, and even young people getting their driver’s license.  If you have an event in your family you would like to celebrate, please let me know.  We can celebrate as part of the Sunday service, as part of a special service, or in a quiet ceremony at your home.

One of the blessings for me is having the opportunity to meet with people and pray with them in their homes.  Your hospitality has been great.  If you are wondering why I haven’t been to your house- just call me and we can set something up.

As we worship and walk as Jesus’ disciples together, we bless one another.

Peace,

--- Pastor Dave

Adult Sunday School Class

We are meeting at 9:45 on Sunday mornings.  For the first six weeks we are looking at a study of reason and faith using the book, What About Religion and Science.  Beginning in mid October we will begin using a Seasons of the Spirit curriculum that follows the lectionary reading for each Sunday.  Each lesson is self contained so feel free to join us at any time.  There is always room for more!

Current catalogs have arrived for “A Greater Gift” items.   Check with Virginia Yoder to see the wide variety of handcrafted items offered.

This is an opportunity to help many different artisans in the world by purchasing gifts from the Greater Gift catalog.  The program works to have equal opportunities for men and women, safe working conditions and fair pay so that the children are not forced to work — these among other principles help the work with 90 producer organizations in 35 developing countries around the world.

Neighbors in Need

Neighbors in Need is a special mission offering of the UCC that supports ministries of justice and compassion though out the United States.  One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC's Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects.

We will join with churches through out the country in collecting this special offering on Sunday, October 7, 2007 as part of our World Wide Communion celebration.

Thank You!

Angela and Scott would like to send their deepest appreciation for all the cards and gifts for their wedding held September 1st. It was a beautiful September morning.

Rev. Jack officiated the ceremony.

The happy couple went to Seattle for their honeymoon and had brunch on top of the Space Needle. They will be living in an apartment in Oregon City till they find a place they can afford in Molalla or Canby. The new address is in Oregon City, Oregon.

Thank you very much!

Angela & Scott Stierle

Kids’ Letters to God

Dear God,

I think about you sometimes even when I’m not praying.

Elliott

Dear God,

I bet it is very hard for you to love all of everybody in the whole world.  There are only 4 people in our family and I can never do it.

Nan
