Please feel free to contact any member of the committee for more information.

We continue to be very grateful for your donations and help with maintenance of the cemetery. Greg Hall is the caretaker, and you will notice all his work next time you visit. He has been hauling dirt and compost to level low spots and has sowed lots of grass seed. We are so fortunate to have a person who sees what needs to be done and does it. He averages 20 hours per month. We would like to move the debris pile outside the back fence so that it is not a hazard for children in the play yard.

 Cemetery Use Policy.

Contact Rick Gano, 503-651-2044, for available locations. A vault is not required but is highly recommended. A permanent marker is required within six months of burial, however, an extension will be granted if estate settlement delays purchase of the marker. The only restrictions on markers are no plastic or resin, and flat 12 x 24 in. granite must be used in the cremation garden. A plot may be reserved only with payment of the price of the plot.

Requested Donations and Fees:
Burial or cremation plots  $ 150
  Preparation for
    cremation Burial        $ 25
  Setting stone in
    cremation Garden        $ 25
  Preparation for other
    burials arranged by
    the Funeral Director
  Setting of other
    stones: price to be
    determined by installation.

Grave Markers

As a service to you, Grave Markers may be ordered through the Cemetery Committee which is able to provide them at cost plus 10%. All colors and styles are available. Joel Daniels has samples of granite and a book of print styles and designs. Payment in advance may be required. It is not a requirement of the cemetery that stones and their installation be ordered from or arranged by us.

 Flowers:

We have many flower containers available from previous years and
we’ll put them out for Memorial Day.

Feel free to use them. Flowers and containers placed on the graves for Memorial Day will be removed on or after June 8 for regular maintenance.

We honor all the Veterans of the Armed Services this Memorial Day

The V.F.W. comes each year and places flags on the graves of all the veterans buried in the cemetery. They usually leave extra flags by the gate to be used for any they have missed. Let us know and we will do our best to see that they are remembered in years to come.

If you know of anyone who would like to receive our annual newsletter, please let us know. We will be happy to add their names to our mailing list. It is because of the active interest of our church members and friends of the cemetery that we feel assured it will be well taken care of in the future.

We can remove your name, or you can choose to receive it online. Just let us know: jdaniels@smyrna-ucc.org Our website: www.smyrna-ucc.org

Did you know:
The Smyrna U.C.C. Cemetery was established in the same year as the church in 1891 on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Roop.

In the 117 years the cemetery has existed, there have been burials every years except for 1892, 1900, 1903, 1907, 1911, 1959, 1970 and 1974.

The Cremation Garden now has a total of 88 plots which may contain the ashes of more than one person. Twenty one have been used and 34 are reserved. The cemetery has 650 burial plots of which 352 have be used and 92 reserved. We still have about half our plots available.

There are 32 burials with the surname Yoder, followed by 13 Veelle, 13 Watson, 11 Gottwald and 10 Hein.

Smyrna Cemetery is registered with the Oregon Pioneer Cemetery Commission as one of the state’s historic cemeteries.

A source of material used to identify some of the unmarked graves in the cemetery was derived from a survey of Clackamas County Cemeteries prepared by the Daughters of the American Revolution as a research project in 1938. With that and other sources, we believe we now have all unmarked graves identified and markers installed by the Cemetery Committee.
