It may have been cold outside, but
things heated up inside as four teams competed in Smyrna’s 4th
Annual Chili Cook-off on Sunday, February 3, 2008. The Hot Chili
Mama’s edged out the Cool Chili Papas, the Tres Amigas Chili
Peppers and Ruby and the Hombres to retain their championship
Sombrero. The total raised for the Building Fund was $2,032 with
$769 of that coming from the winning team. |

Palm Sunday, March 16, 2008
On Thursday,
March 20, 7 p.m., Smyrna UCC Maundy Thursday service took
place in the
Friendship House. The service included Communion by intinction (dipping the bread into the cup) and an observance of
foot washing remembering how Jesus offered to wash the
disciple’s feet as an example of humility and service. |

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, the clouds rolled back and the sun shone
forth for Smyrna’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt. After children found
many, many colorful plastic eggs filled with candy and prizes,
everyone gathered in the Friendship House for a light lunch
provided by Christian Nurture and Volunteers. |

| Five UCY kids & five Adults went to
Rosse Posse Acres Elk Ranch in Molalla on April 20, 2008.
They all had a
really good time listening to a informative talk about Elk Ranching by
Alan Ross, looking at the pretty Elk, petting the animals in the Petting
Zoo and browsing thru their Gift Shop. The weather worked out perfectly
for them, although it was a bit chilly. While they listened to the talk, it
hailed, and when we were ready to go look at the Elk, it was a beautiful
sunny sky. |
| On Sunday, May 4, 2008, Smyrna UCC welcomed three new members
to our church during worship services followed by a special reception
afterwards. Joining the church are Jean Epley, Chris Bangs and
Blanche Kober. |
| July 13, 2008
- Four adults and five UCY kids went
to Bullwinkles for an afternoon filled with excitement, pizza, and ice
cream. They had fun playing miniature golf, laser tag, and video
games; riding the bumper boats and go-carts; and enjoying some pizza and
ice cream cones |
This year our annual Camp Adams
worship service took place on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 11 a.m.
Following the service was a pot luck lunch.
Tthis year, people were invited to spend the night at Camp Adams the evening before.
Dinner was hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, in addition to
playing outdoor games and singing around the camp
fire (with marsh mellows). |
| August 2008: Thanks went
to Becca Yoder and the Sunday School
Children very much for making the church playground look pretty with the
various flowers that were planted over the Summer. |
| On Sunday, Sept. 7,
2008 12:30-3:00 pm, Smyrna UCC thanked donors to various
charities by hosting a picnic in the grove to which everyone was
invited. |
| On September 21, 2008, a
Pastor's Party was held to explain Godly Play and God and Me Sunday
School programs are getting hot and ready to begin on Sunday,
October 26th during worship service.
Audrey Yoder and Angela Stierle were the storyteller and door
person for the first month of Godly Play for children age 3 to
3rd grade. Ginger Redlinger teaches God & Me for
children 4th grade and up. |
